David to play Paganini

David will make his feature debut in Bernard Rose’s “The Devil’s Violinist,” a historical biopic about 19th-century Italian violin virtuoso Niccolo Paganini.

“It has been a lifelong ambition to be involved in a film about my hero Niccolo Paganini,” said Garrett. “He has a special place in my heart and to have the opportunity to bring him back to life on the bigscreen is an extremely exciting experience for me.”

Rose is writing and directing the pic, about the imagined Faustian pact Paganini made to become the world’s first superstar performer.

Budgeted at between $15 millilon-$20 million, the film is slated to begin lensing in August throughout Europe. Garrett will play the violinist and perform his music in the film.

The parallels are apparent in the casting of Garrett, one of Europe’s biggest music stars and a performer who bridges the worlds of rock and classical music. Indeed, Garrett calls Paganini “the first rock star — an eccentric genius with many flaws.”

David’s latest classical album “Legacy”, which includes the Beethoven-Violinconcerto and works by Fritz Kreisler was released in November 2011.
Right away it hit the overall-charts with an historical rank 6 and since then keeps rank 1 of the classical charts.
“Classic Romance”, David’s recording of the Mendelssohn-Violinconcerto and other works, which was released in 2009 is again enjoying great popularity.

For the first time in history a classical album has entered the overall-charts on rank 6 and keeps rank 1 until now. “Legacy” has now reached “Gold-Status” for more than 100.000 sold copies in Germany.

David’s recently released new classical album “Legacy” with the Royal Philharmonic Orchester has hit the charts. In May 2011 he performed the Beethoven-Concerto and works by Fritz Kreisler with the National Philharmonic of Russia under the conductorship of Vladimir Spivakov and Lorenzo Coladonato in the famous Festspielhaus in Baden-Baden and fascinated the audience. You are now able to watch this concert on David’s new DVD “Legacy – Live in Baden-Baden”, which will be released on 13th January 2012. The DVD also contains the documentation “Playing for my Life”.
